Manifesto

Release Before Ready was born from a passion for creating and learning in community. After more than fifteen years organizing events like Super Happy Dev House, Startup Weekend and Eventloop (Chela.js), @dfect and @siedrix decided to return to the origins: gathering to create technology in an atmosphere of collaboration and experimentation.

What started as a three-person pilot hackathon during Easter week quickly grew into a vibrant community of more than 60 creators. We decided to do it within 500 Global, as a major player in the global entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Our vision is to turn Release Before Ready into a recurring space where curiosity and creativity meet technology.

The objective is simple: create using technology. In our first editions we've seen a fascinating diversity of projects: from developers building mobile apps, chatbots and code libraries, to photographers artistically documenting the event.

We're excited about the idea of expanding this community to include artists, makers, academics, financiers and any profile that wants to explore and create with the new technologies that are emerging.

We've also seen entrepreneurs taking advantage of these 12 hours to add that pending feature to their product or finally solve that bug that's been bothering them all week. And this is just the beginning - RbR is a space open to any form of creation that involves technology.

We've identified some principles that we believe, by cultivating them, will bring us closer to the goal of creating using technology. We group these principles into three categories: Creation, Community and Organization. Below we explain each one.

Creation Principles (Craft)

The act of creating is the core of Release Before Ready. These principles guide how we approach creation during the event, and more importantly, how we take advantage of these 12 hours to experiment and learn. They're not rigid rules, but a guide to help you get the most out of the event.

Imperfect versions, fast feedback

In Latin America we usually see technological products that arrive from Silicon Valley in their most polished versions. But the reality is that every successful product started as something simple, sometimes with a single feature that barely suggested its potential.

Reid Hoffman said it best: "If you're not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you launched it too late". At RbR we embrace this philosophy. Show your early versions, get feedback and use those ideas to improve in the next iteration. The magic is in the process, not in perfection or as @dfect has been saying for years "Done is better than perfect".

Let your curiosity be your compass

In our day-to-day as creators, we're constantly balancing stakeholders, team dependencies and user testing. All of this is necessary to ensure that what we build generates value. But at RbR, the rules are different.

Here you have 12 hours to focus on building what you feel should exist, or to experiment with that new technology that intrigues you. You don't need to justify your project to anyone - you are your number one user. Maximize this time to learn and solve the problems that you're passionate about.

Mastery and exploration

Creating requires mastering our tools. Whether it's programming, AI, photography or any other discipline, the first step is to familiarize ourselves with our instruments to understand their potential. Only then can we begin to combine them in innovative ways.

At RbR we value both the process of mastering a tool and experimenting with new combinations. A fundamental part of the event is sharing our tools, discovering how others use them and expanding our view of what's possible to create.

Community Principles

Technology is about creating, but the magic happens when we create together. The community at Release Before Ready is not just a group of people sharing a space - it's a network of creators who inspire, learn and grow from each other.

Diversity of disciplines, richness of perspectives

Although RbR has a strong technological component, we seek to create a space where multiple disciplines converge. We want to see programmers exchanging ideas with designers, academics collaborating with entrepreneurs, and artists exploring the possibilities of new technologies.

This diversity is not accidental - it's essential. Each discipline brings with it a unique way of seeing the world and solving problems. When these perspectives meet, ideas emerge that none would have imagined separately.

Sharing is creating twice

At RbR, showing your work is not just about receiving feedback - it's about inspiring and being inspired. When you share your tools, your process or even your frustrations, you're opening doors for others to learn and be encouraged to create.

The informal conversations during the event, whether about a resolved bug or a newly discovered technology, are as valuable as the code we write or the art we create. From these talks arise unexpected collaborations and friendships that transcend the event.

Long-term serendipity

The true magic of a community is revealed over time. After participating in multiple events, we've seen how the connections that form evolve into unexpected opportunities and lasting collaborations. Whether finding friends with whom you'll share technology conversations for years or discovering your future cofounder.

Something extraordinary happens when we gather frequently with the intention of giving more to the community than it gives us. We can't predict exactly what opportunities will arise, but we know that participating with an open heart, good vibes and desire to share always bears fruit. The rest develops organically over time.

Organization Principles

For Release Before Ready to endure and grow, we need to build solid foundations. These principles guide how we operate the event to keep it sustainable and aligned with our values.

Transparency and continuous improvement

We openly share how we operate the event because we believe transparency helps us improve. Each edition is an opportunity to learn and adjust our format, always maintaining the essence of what makes RbR special. We expect all your feedback on how to improve your events and see how each event can be better than the previous one.

Financial responsibility

For Release Before Ready to grow and endure, we need solid foundations. The sustainability of the event begins with transparent and realistic financial management. That's why we ask for a contribution for your place - this commitment allows us to plan for the future and guarantee that each edition surpasses the previous one.

Your contribution translates directly into the event experience: coffee to keep us creative, food to recharge energy, and all the necessary elements to make each edition a space where you can focus on creating. We don't want money to be a barrier, but a reflection of the value we create together. These funds help us keep the event running month by month, allowing us to focus on what really matters: creating an exceptional space for the community.

Seeking long-term alliances

The best collaborations are born when everyone involved shares a vision. We seek to build lasting relationships with sponsors who not only understand our mission, but are as excited as we are about the potential of this community.

The perfect example is our relationship with Flexoffices. Isaac Carreon and his team have not only opened the doors of their offices to us - they have a philosophy similar to what RbR represents and have every interest in supporting the entire ecosystem to grow. This has helped us to have the dates of the next events already published in both Mexico City, Palo Alto, Bogotá and Guadalajara. This is not coincidence - it's our commitment to you and to allies like Flexoffices so that you can plan your participation with time and be a constant part of this growing community.

We will continue cultivating these relationships with care and authenticity, seeking partners who, like Flexoffices, want to be part of this long-term story. Because the best alliances, like the best communities, are built with time, trust and a shared vision of the future.

Welcome and let's build the future together

Release Before Ready is more than an event - it's an experiment in continuous construction. Every person who participates adds something unique to this community and helps define what we can achieve together.

We invite you to be part of this journey. Bring your ideas, your curiosity and your desire to create. It doesn't matter if you're a developer, artist, photographer or simply someone eager to experiment with technology - there's a place for you at RbR.

See you at the next event, ready to create something extraordinary.
